Homoeopathy

  1. General requirements for all applications

    1. Completed official application form together with the applicable application fee together with all supporting documentation as requested on the application form not specifically mentioned below as additional requirements;
    2. Copy of South African identity document (excluding drivers licence), OR
    3. Copy of Passport together with a valid work permit that entitles the person to practice Homoeopathy in South Africa either under the terms and conditions of employment or in private practice ;
    4. All documents must be certified and Council holds the right to call for all original documents in terms of Section 15 of the Act
    5. Any documents submitted that are not in English must include a sworn translation of the content of the document in English;
    6. All applications must be submitted to Council House


  2. Requirements for registration

    1. Copy of qualification(s) as required;
    2. Copy of complete academic record for full duration of studies;
    3. SAQA Certificate of Evaluation;
    4. Proof that the qualification allows the applicant to practice Homoeopathy in the country where the qualification was obtained;
    5. Proof of registration with relevant statutory body;
    6. Original letter of good standing from relevant registering statutory body, which letter must state that the applicant does not have any pending disciplinary proceedings against them or been sanctioned in terms of any disciplinary proceedings. The letter of good standing shall not be older than 3 months;
    7. If the qualification is older than 5 years the applicant must provide a brief curriculum vita, in order to establish whether the applicant has been practicing Homoeopathy and thereby has kept up to date with the practice and the profession.


  3. Applicants who are unable to provide a SAQA Certificate of Evaluation

    In the event of the applicant not being able to provide a SAQA Certificate of Evaluation as stated by way of formal communication from SAQA, the Professional Board shall take into consideration the following:

    1. that the applicant has combined formal qualifications, including a stand alone qualification in Homoeopathy of not less than 4 years;
    2. that the qualification/s include the following critical areas based on and with reference to Regulation 45:
      1. Understanding of normal and abnormal structure and function (e.g. Anatomy, Physiology);
      2. Basic and applied natural sciences (e.g. Biochemistry, Biology, Chemistry)
      3. Clinical evaluation and diagnosis (e.g. Diagnostics);
      4. Disease patterns and processes (e.g. Epidemiology, Immunology);
      5. Pathology and mechanisms of disease (e.g. Systemic pathology, General pathology)
      6. Homoeopathic pharmaceutical principles and practice (e.g. Homoeopharmaceutics);
      7. Homoeopathic philosophy and materia medica (e.g. Materia medica);
      8. Clinical homoeopathic training (e.g. Clinical homoeopathy)
    3. That the qualification was not obtained by way of distance learning where more than 50% of the qualification is completed by way of distance/correspondence learning and that the following areas have not been completed by correspondence training:
      1. Clinical evaluation and diagnosis (e.g. Diagnostics)
      2. Pathology and mechanisms of disease (e.g. Systemic pathology, General pathology)
      3. Supervised clinical homoeopathic training (including: Clinical homoeopathy)


  4. Medical Practitioners who hold post graduate qualifications in Homoeopathy

    1. The applicant shall hold a qualification obtained from the South African Faculty of Homoeopathy
    2. the applicant shall be registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a medical practitioner, which registration shall be that of an independent practice as defined by the HPCSA;
    3. the applicant shall be registered as stated in sub-paragraph 4.1(ii) prior to commencing his/her postgraduate studies in homoeopathy and shall continue for the entire duration of such studies;
    4. the applicant shall be registered as stated in sub-paragraph 4.1(ii) at the time of applying for registration in Homoeopathy;
    5. the applicant shall be registered as a student with the Council during the entire duration of his/her studies with the SA Faculty of Homoeopathy.

[1] In the event of a person not being able to obtain a work permit prior to registration, the Council will provide a letter for such purpose should the applicant meet all the requirements for registration.
